I searched codeplex for the same and found that as well which is because I wanted to hear if somebody had found a way how to create the newsletter function.
I have chosen to start out with an umbraco 3.0.5 (upgraded to 3.0.6) and made my newsletter service there. That way I can create a direct linking area to my homepage and at the same time have all my newsletters available to users if they want to go into the archive. And then I can also link to the pages online if people are not able to see the newsletter in their email program. That way I get to do 3 things at the same time with no extra effort.

According to the blog post http://www.umbraco.org/ the mailer datatype isn't compatible with v4.
